Kaindy Lake. Sunken forest.



Kaindy Lake is located 300 kilometers from Almaty in the Tian Shan Mountains, It is a unique and must see place, one of most asked tour from from foreign tourists.

Formation. Kaindy Lake is a high-altitude lake that was formed as a result of a powerful earthquake in 1911. The earthquake triggered a massive landslide that formed a natural dam, blocking the gorge and creating the lake.

Sunken Spruce Forest. One of the most distinctive features of Kaindy Lake is the submerged spruce forest that stands eerily in the lake’s clear waters. The submerged trees, especially the tree trunks and their bare branches, create a surreal and otherworldly atmosphere.

Turquoise-Colored Water. The lake is known for its stunning turquoise-colored water, which adds to the surreal beauty of the landscape. The color is a result of minerals and the unique geological conditions of the area.

Altitude. Kaindy Lake is an alpine lake, located at an altitude of 2 000 meters above sea level, surrounded by beautiful mountains.

In winter lake is frozen, sometimes it is covered with clear ice and it has real fairytale look. Big advantage of visiting lake in winter is much less people around you as in summer this place is very popular for large group tours.

Nearby Attractions. Kaindy Lake is located in close proximity to other natural attractions, including Charyn Canyon, Moon Canyon, Black Canyon, Kolsai Lakes. Travelers often combine visits to Kaindy Lake with exploration of nearby scenic areas.

Accommodations. While Kaindy Lake itself doesn’t have any infractructure around, you can stay in Saty village, which is located 10 kilometers down the road to the lake.
